The sixth largest city in Arizona, Peoria is a rugged beauty with spectacular terrains of the Sonoran desert. With its population having grown to about 155,000, it really is a bit larger than a “prairie” which the city’s name is derived from. It is home to outdoor adventures and the Peoria Sports Complex which has the best facilities for spring training baseball. The San Diego Padres and Seattle Mariners often train here.
In 2008, Money Magazine named Peoria one of the “Top 100 Places to Live.” A major suburb of Phoenix, the city is a fast growing community with lots of flavorful experiences to offer. It takes pride in its history with a lot of preserved historic places to discover among which are the 1889 Peoria Town Well in Osuna Park, Peoria Jail House, Edwards Hotel, and Paloverde Park. There are historic houses as well such as the Sosnoskie House which is the oldest remaining residence in the Old Peoria Townsite, the Latham House, the Kosier House, and the Mason House all built a little over a hundred years ago.
The bright and great outdoors is another of Peoria’s pride where hiking, golf, swimming, biking, paintball shooting, horseback riding, and other sports are enjoyed immensely. The city has a number of health clubs, water and skate parks, zoos, a botanical garden and areas where beautiful sunsets can be witnessed. The indoors are equally entertaining with vibrant restaurants and bars to try out as well as shopping centers that will delight the shopaholic.
Peoria’s social calendar is jam packed with different festivities including the P83 Party that ushers the beginning of Spring Training; the family friendly Easter Egg Hunting held at the Peoria Sports Complex; the All American Festival that is a commemoration of Independence Day; and the Oldtown Holiday Festival that feels like Christmas as early as November. All in all, Peoria is bustling all year round and is indeed a top place to settle in.
